Watching Westminster and looking at the beagle group...almost all are tricolors. According to the AKC website, "any true hound color" is acceptable for the beagle breed standard. So...why are the tricolors the only ones I'm seeing in the show ring? Where are the red & whites, lemon & whites, etc? Those colors are considered acceptable and not faults, so why are they not represented in the show ring?

My guess the reason is because there can only be one from each group. With so many adorable hounds they would have make room for them in the toy group. I mean who really needs another Maltese or Min Pin. I say have another hound group. Beagles rule don't they?

Oh I didn't mean in the hound group. I meant in just the beagle breed group (you can see photos/video online). There are dozens of beagles, but they are all tricolors. Why are most if not all show beagles tricolors, is my question.

I was only fooling around!! Personally the whole show should be hounds !!
As for why only Tri and no lemons? I believe they compete regionally and then move up to the Westminster. So only Tri won locally/regionally. Probably a fluke. But I could be wrong. Sent from Petguide.com Free App

I was at a Breed only show for Beagles at the weekend and the best in show was won by a lemon and white bitch. You see more tri colours because there are a lot more of them so the chances of getting one of a show standard are a lot higher.
I start showing Brynn next month and yes he is Tri colour, all though his mum is Lemon and White she has also won multiple awards Sent from Petguide.com Free App |

I also think breeders favour the traditional tri colour with the black saddle

Because tri is a much more common colour. so more likley in a litter of 7 with 5 tris and 2 lemons chances are much higher a show puppy prospect will be a tri colour. Not every puppy born will be show worthy. and since tri is so popular its much more likley

Definatley not a fault. Below I'd a picture if the bitch that won BIS at the show I was at on Saturday. Here is a link for judging guidelines which is a little more extensive than the breed standard
