Hi all, just wondered if anyone knows why my beagle digs in his bed?! He has a basket in his crate which he doesn't 'dig' in ( when i say dig, imagine a beagle outside digging a hole in the ground,it looks exactly like this!) but when we move his basket into the lounge all he wants to do is scratch and dig at it. We have bought several 'bed' type object for then lounge to see if or some reason he stops digging in them, but nothing works! We purchased a lovely soft dog bed for Odie to lay in the lounge with us In the evening,it took all of 5mins to rip it to shreds and pull the stuffing out of it! However he doesn't seem cross when he is doing this, almost as if that is its purpose,to be torn up! It's like a game to him! He seems more than happy to snuggle up on MY pink snug rug!!
Any ideas suggestions welcome

Cute photo. Tobey is a bit like this, he has a crate mattress and a blanket and doesn't seem to dig or chew in there but we also bought a soft cushion dog bed for the living room which he either tries to dig through or picks up and looks like he is trying to rip to shreds. I was guessing he just sees his crate as his bed and everything else as a play thing.

Oh wow, was thinking that he thinks of it as a toy, shame they can't rationalise, a nice comfy bed to lay on in the evenings! He Evan has a small mattress in the kitchen, that usually remains in one place, occasionally he will drag it into the living room to 'play' with!!

My Princess does this but she does it when she is trying to get comfortable, almost like as if she is fluffing her pillow and then she snuggles and goes to sleep. She does the same on my chair in the kitchen and my leather couch. At first I thought she was digging to tear it up. But she never does.

I bought my Beag two beautiful beds and both were thrashed in minutes!--cotton balls floating everywhere-so much for that. I also put nice towels in her crate which she bunches up into a wad-I guess if she like lumps in her crate, oh well. I brought her hard plastic kiddie pool into the house if she wants to lie down in it with towels and toys. She's got plenty of chew toys and bones to keep her mouth busy. I saw a Kong bed mattress with reallly tough fabric that I will opt for some time in the future when I think she's ready to enjoy the comfort

Glad Odie is not the only one! He doesn't seem to be wanting to get comfy in it, he runs around with his bed in his mouth, thrashing it around then digging and scratching it!!

My girls both like to dig at their beds and make a nest. I got them pretty well made beds and I put extra blankies and old shirts so they can use them for their nest.
