Please "WEIGH" in

A friend fostered a dog 2 years ago that I could have sworn was a pure Beagle. It was on the larger side, and it turns out this dog was mixed with Walker Treeing Hound. They look just like a big tall Beagle. I wonder if that is not also the case with some of these "larger" Beagles? Obesity is a big potential problem with this breed, but any owner can tell just by LOOKING at their dog if the dog weighs what it does because it is too fat, or in the case of these really big, but obviously slender dogs, a Walker Hound in the wood pile somewhere? Dillon weighs between 21 and 23 pounds depending on which scale he's weighed on. He is one year old and the 13" variety. He is a good weight for his structure.

As a former hobby breeder of championship line beagles, I've had beagles of all sizes and shapes here. Due to some age related problems I've re-homed most of my "pack", but had beagles ranging from 14.75 inches tall and almost 40 pounds (my sturdy beagle - not fat - just "sturdy"), down to my "tiny beagle", Chloe, who is 11 years old and weighs about 15#. Currently I have Chloe, JoJo, who is 8 and is about 25# - Lottie, another little beagle - who is "stockier" than Chloe, and JoJo's daughter from her last litter, Lily, who is almost 3 and weighs about 22#. Since my "stud" was a small guy - about 20# and 12", most of the pups from their litters were smaller beagles - about 20-22 pounds. JoJo came from a long line of field champions - which included her mother, Spotty who was a tiny girl - and her mother's full brother, who was an impressive 18" tall and 53#. I had no idea how big JoJo would be - but she's really a nice mid-sized beagle. Beagles DO come in all sizes, shapes and colors - one of the nice things about the breed.

My dog is a tubber, then. He's 15" at the shoulder and was 40 pounds at his first vet visit with me as his owner.

Some time has passed when I first posted this thread. Cassie will be 1 yr this month and is now 25.7 lbs, 15 inches.

Charlie is due to visit the Vet soon, but at his last visit (late 2012) he was 38lbs. Hes not fat but has a sturdy build. Hes on the tall side (ill get an accurate measurement) so I'm guessing his height/weight is correct.

My beagle is 5 months as well, just had a vet visit, weighed in at 18 lbs.
