Default Anxiety issues and bed wetting help please

Hi Everyone, sorry for the long first post

My wife and I own 2 lovely Beagles, Lily who is nearly 5 and Poppy who is 2. Poppy arrived in 2010 when Lily was 3. Early on she was a bundle of joy but a little posessive about her toys. Even to this day she will always want what Lily has. It also gets to the point where it is difficult to play with Lily on here own without Poppy wanting to join in. Anyway my main issue is anxiety issues with Poppy.

Lily never did any mess in her crate from very early on, Poppy still has these issues but she never goes in the house though. For the first few weeks both slept in separate crates but Poppy constantly cried and howled. After a few weeks we joined the crates together and Poppy didn't make a sound. However she wet the bed on many occasions which is not fair on Lily who has never messed up her bed in over 4 years. To combat this we put Poppy in a smaller crate at night, although she has not wet the bed in the last 4 nights she has started crying and howling all hours of the night.

My wife also says If I leave the house for a long period (even though my wife is there and Lily) she will cry for me.

Your help is much needed as it's the only issue we are having with these lovely little dogs

Dave

It's frustrating because on her own she does not wet the bed that often. I think when we put them together in a bigger crate that's when the problems start

So cute though at 6 months

It's not seperation anziety so to speak. It's a young dog trying to get her way. As long as your sure she doesn't have to go outside for a potty break leave her be. Let her whine. If you open that crate while she is whining it will re inforce her whining. If you can give her a good run and or walk before going to bed and a chew toy.

Pam - set your alarm clock to get up and take pup out over night. If he has an accident it's becuase he didnt' make it outside to go pee. Set him up for good behavior.

I would get rid of the bed - Once it smells like a 'potty place' the dog will continue to go on it. The first time, she may have been too tired or too scared to get out.Use something old that you can bleach instead of a 'real bed' for the time being.

For some of my dogs, I have covered three sides of the crate - they liked the 'den' feeling. Others have needed a radio - turned low - for company.

What's making the problem worse is that on her own Poppy is fine and doesn't wet the bed, but she cries. On the other hand when they sleep together with both crates joined she doesn't cry but she wets the bed. As I say its not fair on Lily who has never wet the bed

Could be a urinary track infection then. If he has that option to go in another place I would have him checked by the vet. Could also be incoganace (SP).

I agree new bed also. then start waking up to get him out. Remember try to time it before he has the accident. If that doesnt' work definitly a vet check.

I would speak to your vet they may have heard of this bed wetting problem b4 or as brandypup said it could be a urinary track infection. I would get one of those hard plastic beds - easy to clean and you can add blankets for comfort etc. We also have a "Poppy" and got her in 2010!!
