Lily- It's a young dog trying to get her way. As long as your sure she doesn't have to go outside for a potty break leave her be. Let her whine. If you open that crate while she is whining it will re inforce her whining. If you can give her a good run and or walk before going to bed and a chew toy.

Nuttynat is right - or even put them so that the crates are touching, so that pups can sleep 'together' but separately.
Sometimes, peeing can be a dominance thing - i.e. 'mine'. Yet, beagles are pack animals, and need the 'contact comfort'. Striking a balance can be hard. About the crying when you leave. If your daughter and wife have a special treat that Poppy really loves, and they only give it to her after you've been gone for a while, then she may feel less anxious. Are you the only one that feeds her? Takes her for walks? Share the special things that you do for Poppy - let your wife and duqaghter do them too, and she should be calmer when you are not there. Good luck! |

Had a mini breakthrough, we tried it a couple of nights ago but I have just noticed a few posts suggesting the idea I tried
![]() We put both crates touching each other and no bed wetting or crying. At least now she is close to Lily but unable to ruin her crate If she does wet the bed. 2 days and counting |

The only experience I've had with the bed wetting only issue, is when I was a child and we had a tom cat. My step-father was too cheap to get him neutered. My mother saved up green stamps(remember green stamps oldsters ?) and got him a deluxe bed. The first thing he did was urinate on it. He was probably marking his territory. My mother grabbed him up and started smacking him, yelling "stop!" "stop!" , as she was holding him over the bed ,which of course just made him pee more! I thought it was hilarious! But it sounds like you have a whole different issue here. I seldom put any kind of bedding in the crate with young puppies before they are potty trained because even though I've always heard that a dog will never soil their crate I've found that's not true. Some puppies do and some don't. Same with newspaper. Most puppies I've had(and there's been a lot because I've done a lot of foster over the years) will make more of a mess with the newspaper-you end up with messy confetti! And some puppies will chew up and potentially ingest bedding materials. So I just put them in an empty crate. It may not be as comfortable and snuggly but it works.
