Default Beagle question

We just bought a beagle and we love him to death. His name is Ratchet. He is about nine weeks old now and I just noticed that his poop is getting a little runny. I will be taking him to the vet soon for his first check up. I didn't know if anyone knew what would cause this in a young pup. Other than that he appears to be healthy as ever and is full of energy.

Hi
I think I read that this can happen when you first bring your puppy home because its a bit upsetting for them to be in a new unfamiliar place he should be fine in a week or so my puppy was.

Sometimes it just happens from over excitement, food changes, getting vaccinations etc. You can add a bit of plain canned pumpkin to his food to firm things up! Might want to take a poo sample for the vet visit just to be safe.

They are soooooo cute at 9 weeks old!!

Do you give him anything besides regular dog food? Nina seems to have a wheat allergy and if you check almost all dog treats the first ingredient is wheat. Too much wheat will make her have the runs.

Welcome! I know Lily's was soft when we first got her but only for a few days. The people we got her from gave us a small bag of dog food that they were giving the pups so we went and bought a bigger bag of the same stuff so I am not sure if that helped as her diet didn't change at all.

Thanks for all the advice. I will try the canned pumpkin trick and see if it works.

if you can't find canned pumpkin...try carrots. I was able to find empty shelves of canned pumpkin at 4-5 supermarkets until luckily finding them week 2/3 of having Hailey. Prior to that, we were using carrots. Frozen carrots great if your pup is teething. But I ended up cooking (steam/boil) them. Mash them up and put them into ice cube trays. It's a lot cheaper then canned pumpkin, and she loves both equally.

we had a right faff with one of ours for a good 7 weeks & it was just down to the kibble, we changed food a few times, the higher priced end too, even the expensive hypo allergenic stuff was no good for Arthur, we ended up on Science Plan & the change was literally instant, other things we checked at the time were plants in the garden/worms/cat pigeon poo access & the 2 of the nasties Parvo & Coronavirus, we tried to reset his tummy a couple of times with rice & fish/chicken & it worked only very short term, i noticed too a lot of dog treats are really not suitable for under 4 months

There are lots of reasons why Ratchet may have a loose stool, but please don't try to guess what it is. Get some professional advice from your vet to be on the safe side. If you need some legal advice you go to a lawyer. If you need Beagle medical advice you go to a vet.
