My first beagle Benny used to do the "permiter survey walk" of our yard many times a day. The grass was actually worn down from the surveying.
Now Molly started doing it and I think it is so funny. Our fenced yard is sort of L shaped and she has to do the survey walk too. Good girl checking out the yard for evil critters!

Chloe does that too! With never having a Beagle before, I thought it was totally the normal thing to do. Chloe is a little haphazard about it though, almost as if she eventually plans to get to ever inch of the lawn. But many times, we just do the perimeter.

Lily doesn't get to check out our whole yard as it's not fenced in so I have to have her on the leash. I generally don't like to let her get too close as there are woods with tall grasses and of course woodticks. I have noticed though that she does like to check out as much of it as I will let her except for the one side. The family that lives down at the bottom of our property has two bigger dogs who are outside dogs and they bark anytime we get near and I think she is scared of them so I don't bring her down there.

That's funny! We still don't have a fence up yet, unfortunately, but Roscoe does the perimeter sniff at the dog park and that is a huge area but he covers the entire thing!
