Default Water bowls

How can you keep your puppy from dumping over their water dish? If anyone was to peep through my windows they would probably think I was dehydrating my dog the way she frantically drinks her water. The minute she is done eating and taking a few sips she tips over her water dish. We thought it was because it was plastic and she thought it was a chew toy but she does it with her metal one too. I also thought it might because she can see her reflection in the bottom becuase she often starts pawing when the water is gone but any food/water dish I can find that isnt' metal is cermanic and I can't take the chance of her flipping over one that can shatter into a million peices. I feel bad because we have to restrict her water, I would like to keep it out at all times for her but I can't be mopping my floor 8 times a day. Any suggestions?

(I've thought about taping the water dish to the floor but I would be afraid she could get it loose and eat the tape and make herself sick).

We use a bowl that looks like a water cooler. The front is a bowl and the back has a 2 1/2 gallon water bottle that refills the bowl. With 3 dogs, we don't have to fill the water several times a day this way. Also they can't tip it over. It is heavy. In the summaer we refill it every other day or when the water gets stuff in it. We also can put ice cubes in it to keep it cooler. In the winter we don't fill it as full so the water runs out quicker and we have to replace it sooner.

we started with plastic ones.. Dudley could often be seen disappearing up the garden with one, we then tried metal.. again too light, i had a big pot one from my last dog i tried it & it stays put, its too heavy to tip

Lily usually likes to pounce on her dish sending the food and water flying everywhere. It gets better though because if any of the food gets into whatever water is left then she starts barking and pawing at it dragging it all over the kitchen until the last of the water has splashed out allowing her to then eat the dog food that was trapped in the water. It's really quite a spectacle to watch I'm going to have to try and get a video of it one of these days.

I am now switching her to the one we had for our previous dog it's two metal bowls that sit in this wooden holder up off the floor. I tried it with her in my office and so far other then chewing on parts of the wood she has not been able to tip them over yet.

Ours is a metal wrought-iron like stand that holds both the food and water dishes side by side. It's really sturdy and I don't think it can be tipped over. Baker doesn't do this to his dishes. We got it at Petsmart

We'll be picking up Hailey later today, so of course I waited until today to set thins up (crate, puppy pads, etc.) Our stainless dishes has a rubber trim, but on our floor it slides easy. I thought it was just crappy, and would buy another one...then I put it in her crate and it hugs the bottom pan.

I'll probably look for something that Kathiam uses. I like how it's off the floor.

Thanks everyone for your advice (sorry its taken me so long to respond, but I did read your replies right after I posted this). I ended up getting her a heavier glass dish that she can't tip as *easily* and it has a plastic bottom. So far it has held up and she doesn't try tipping it as often, only when she is still thirsty and out of water.

I have thought about getting one of those double stands they sell at Petsmart (someone suggested it) but most of those are ceramic bowls and we have really hard floors (terrazzo) and I'm afraid of them breaking if she gives it a really good push to knock over.

I use a large heavy old fashioned crock (I find them at garage sales). They are very difficult to tip over (even if a curious beagle tries to climb in).

We also use the 2 1/2 gal jug on the dish. It works wonderfully and no need to fill but about once a week with two dogs.

I always use stainless steel bowls, much more sanitary. Molly has her food and water bowl in a little raised feeder rack. It looks something like this:
