Default question about weight...

okay so luna is around 17 months, she's a 13 inch beagle, and she weights around 22lbs.... but for some reason i keep thinking she's skinny. should i be concerned about her weight by any means? or is it normal?

I was soooo worried about our Roscoe early on. He was and still is "skinny". He is 3 years old and is holding steady at 22lbs! The vets have assured me he is super healthy and they are so glad to see our beagles b/c they are not overweight.

He has a healthy appetite and will eat anything in sight, he also never sits still.

yea that's how luna is, she eats twice a day wellness food, she's very energetic, i spent around 2 hrs @ the dog park each day since i live in an apartment, and i have seen bigger beagles and i always wondered if my luna was under weight. for sure u cannot feel her ribs, she's full and she has a lil waist, yet, everyone loves to see her because she's not an over weight beagle. she needs shot in october i will ask her vet.

Both Yuki and Niko are 13" and about 21 lbs. When we had them chipped, the vet told us that they were perfect and that he rarely saw beagles at a perfect weight.

OOPS - both these pictures are of Yuki. Niko is almost exactly the same.

Honey is four months and pushing 15-16 pounds. She was 12 5 weeks ago, and my measurement is by feel not by scale.

I can push very slightly and feel her ribs, but she seems heavy to me. Trust your vet and/or trainer and know that Beagles will eat all you put before them and beg for more. Don't feed them until they are full. Feed them until they are healthy.

Take care,
Pat

Sprite is almost 13 months and weighs around 25 pounds. If you ever feel that your dog is either overweight or underweight, run your hand along his/her ribs. You should be able to feel the ribs without pushing, but shouldn't be able to see them unless he/she is laying a certain way, etc.

Goober is 1 1/2 and he is a solid 25.5 pounds (mostly muscle). The vet says he is perfect weight and perfectly healthy.

Just saw this topic. The vet reckons Peggy will be about 25kg (55lbs) because she is a beagle foxhound cross. She is 13 weeks old and she already weighs 10kg (22lbs).
