A few beagle issues, pooing, peeing, walking!!

Hiya

I am new on this site, so I apologize if I have put this in the wrong area!

I have a few questions about our beagle Tito, we have had him for three years this August and got him when he was ten weeks old.

He is a great dog and we love him dearly and he gets away with a lot! He is very gentle a year and a half ago we had our first child and Tito is brilliant with him, very gentle and loving.

Last August we finally took him out of his crate, as he had always been crated but he finally stopped chewing, so we moved him into a basket in the hallway and all was good.

Gradually over the past month, we have been waking to piles of poo on the floor, we had had this cracked near on every morning, we do let him out before bed. This then progressed to wee as well as poo, and more recently he has stopped asking to go out for a wee. He has started to wee or poo anywhere in the house. We are cleaning the area that he is doing it on, and he is not just going in one place he seems to go anywhere! Today for instance he was asleep on the sofa, jumped up and peed on the floor in the lounge, didn't even aim to walk to the door. Everything else seems fine, he doesn't seem to be drinking any more than usual and he seems to be eating the same, you know everything! So I don't think he has a UTI, but he just doesn't seem to ask. We are not sure whether it is because our little boy is now in the house or not? I have to admit he doesn't get taken out as much as he is so difficult to take out with a pushchair, (I will come to that in a bit) but other than that we are still doing all the same things with him.

I just wondered if any one had any ideas on how to help with this as my other half is getting very annoyed with it?

The second thing is walking, now my other half can let Tito off the lead and he does come back to him, I am not sure how. I can't let him off as I don't think he would ever come back for me. But on the lead he pulls so badly and he is such a strong thing that I find it almost impossible to try and walk him with the pushchair, I was wondering whether any one had any ideas with this.

Cassidy did this. She went through potty relapse...just, keep him crated and it will most likely stop. Also, for the pulling, I suggest a halti collar or a special harness that prevents pulling, not a regular one. As for listening, you must be pack leader! lol, as funny as it sounds, he may be sensing your insecurities, and knows he can 'get away' with it. I wouldn't let him off lead, for his safety and for your sanity.

I agree with araine, don't let him off the lead, and get a harness for him rather than a collar. Casie our youngest, hadn't ever been walked on a leash before we got him....and we had to train him to walk nicely. Phew, thought it was going to kill me, he is a strong little bugger. But with the harness, he doesn't seem to pull as much, and will sit before we go on. I have arthritis in my knees, so it's not so easy to walk either of them, we have two beags. As for the potty training...OMG! if I could find a magic solution, I'd give it to you. Casie was trained in a kennel situation with a long run...he is a breeder's pup, and he has regressed to needing to be in his crate also. I am sure that with the cold weather we have had, no one wants to poo or pee outside...but that's where dogs go. We've had to start over also....not fun, but necessary. Unless of course you like cleaning carpets all the time. Let me know if you hit on a solution to this problem.

i agree, get a halti to stop the pulling and then take him out for a good hour in the morning and afternoon. you will be able to push the buggy as well so all 3 of you are getting fresh air and time together. he may be just playing up at the moment, as he may be bored and not stimulated enough?
