Default disc issues

Poor odie has disc issues along and back and his spine so I cant use a collar to walk him, cant pull on his neck and I cant use a harness as it can tweek the back..so does anybody have any suggestions on if or what is out there to use that wont hurt the neck and back? Luckily we do have a big fenced back yard but I miss walking him.
any suggestions would be much appreciated
thanks

Wow, that's a challenge. I have a car harness that does not involve a collar and has a hook in the middle of the harness..that might be an option

I will check out the pet store to see what they have for car harnesses to see if there is one I can use to walk him without causing a strain on the neck or back.. thanks I will try that.

I have always used a prong/pinch collar on Boh. It prevents pulling. Boh never pulls, but I have used this collar since he was a puppy. I would be reluctant to tell you to use that on Odie, with his issues.

Does your vet have any suggestions?

I asked the vet first and she wasn't sure because of both the back and neck issues. With medication and no stairs, furniture or jumping the disc will heal but it will always be an ongoing concern that can re-occur so I was just trying to find a solution, if there is one to walk him. He loves the backyard but he gets to see his doggy friends on walks.

Sad! I use the wonder walker body harness. It also clips in the front. How about a gentle leader? Tough call. Hope he feels better soon.

thank you . He has 5 days of Gabapentin left and then we go back to the vet for re-evaluation. I will ask the vet about the a gentle leader or if she has any other ideas.

I have heard horrible things about the gentle leader. Please don't try that. Honestly, in your position, I would consider the pinch collar. The prong is not a 'choke' collar. It will not choke the dog. It should be fitted properly, to sit snugly high on the neck, behind the dog's ears. Natty Boh never pulls and has never been injured wearing his prong. I can literally walk him with one finger.

Here is an anti-gentle leader article. It sums up every negative thing I have ever heard about them:

thanks for the link. I will talk to the vet on Monday about that options as he is on backyard only for now so I have time to find out what is best for him. If Natty Boh is that easy to walk with it on might be the way to go.

Hmmm.... I used a gentle leader on my Golden, my Vet told me about it. Said it's the same concept of a horse halter. Worked like a charm. Did try it on Autumn though and she did not like it. I suppose it really is just trial and error for each dog.
