Hm, Perhaps Toby clicker trained his owners and has now taken over the internet.

Sorry we haven't updated the training. Apparently Toby is doing well in his puppy class. My wife and daughters are bringing him to class (I have my own night class to attend those nights) and he seems to be doing well. He 'graduates" this week I believe and my wife is signing up for Part II of the training series. He sits, stays, comes when called (as much as any beagle will) and last night blew our minds when he laid down on command from across the room. He was in his pen, whining because he wanted to interrupt our dinner. I looked at him and said "Toby, down!" with the hand motion. He grumbled and laid right down! We were flabbergasted, but ecstatic at the same time. I actually got up and he got a treat for listening. That seemed to calm him down.

But he still pees in the house He goes outside, pees outside, poops outside, then comes back inside and pees within 5 or 10 minutes of coming inside. Just because. Guess we just have to choose our battles and be patient.

Congratulations on the command progress. Don't lose hope on the potty training, my dog took about 10 months to be more reliable. I still watch her like a hawk inside at 5yrs old

I was explaining to my wife that there are people on this forum that took almost 2 years to potty train (or something like that). He's just being stubborn. He knows what he's doing. He's just being Toby.

I say don't believe those potty training books that say your dog can be potty trained in a week...NOT! LOL
Try using a clicker, it helps. Lots of youtube videos on how to use one

It sounds like Toby isn't finished peeing while he is outside. Pups/dogs will often pee multiple times. Is he on leash, when you take him out to potty? Try keeping him outside longer until he goes more. Monitor him inside to not give him the opportunity to make a mistake.

There is no reason it should take any dog months or years to be potty trained. If so, something is not working and something else needs to be tried.
