Racer is a wonderfully snuggly 3-year-old beagle. He's mostly a good dog, housebroken, knows to sit and stay. He just on occasion can be aggresive with other dogs and delivery-type men. He's wonderful with my kids (10 and 6) and with almost all of the neighborhood kids. I think he would thrive in a home without too much foot traffic and someone to snuggle with. We live in the suburbs of Philly, if there is anyone who is interested. Though this is a heartbreaking decision for our family, it has to be done, and I can't stomach the thought of putting him in a shelter.
Thanks. |

Gee, I wish I could help you out, but I'm up to my eyes with 3 Beagles. Sounds like Racer could benefit from some 1:1 time with a good trainer, but I know that can be difficult with kids in the house. Have you contacted these folks? They can give you good advice: www.cascaderescue.org/east.html
Good luck - I know this is a difficult decision for you.

thanks. we are working with a trainer and he's making progress, no doubt. He's a great dog, but since there are so many kids on the street (35 of them, all 10 and under), and we get packages often, I just am hesitant about things.
Thanks for your advice, I'll be looking into the link you sent. |

I can't tell from your post if you are trying to keep him or absolutely have to give him away. If its a matter of training, then I would take him to a class away from your home, learn the skills needed and then work with him at home. You can put up dog gates to keep him from running out front doors or to block him from windows that have the most kid traffic. But if you must give him up, I would definately try word of mouth first to find a loving home, and if not surrender him to a protective foundation. Good luck whatever you choose!
